Professor H.I.Latifee visited ARDY

and launched the Grameen-funded program

  • In the afternoon of September 25, Mr.H.I.Latifee, the managing director of Grameen Trust, Bangladesh, and Ms.gao Xiangjun, the executive director of ARDY, had respectively signed the agreement between Grameen and ARDY about GT's funding the Microfinance program of Yongle Branch, which meant the formal beginning of this program and the cooperation between GT and ARDY.

  • This program targets the poor farmers in Yongle township in hopes of improving their living and life capacities through providing them with the short-term loan. The total grant from GT will amount to US$50,000 in two-year term. Two farmer groups will be eligible to become the clients of the program. One group is the commercial clients, which includes those farmers in Yongle Township doing the business activities in nearby towns; another is the rural clients who are engaging in the traditional activities such as planting and animal-raising. According to ARDY's plan, in 2005, the number of the clients of Yongle Branch will reach 650 households, of which 250 households are commercial clients and other 400 rural clients. By then, Yongle Branch will be able to support itself by its income despite the termination of GT's fund, to realize its sustainble development.
  • In his two-day visit to ARDY, Mr. Latifee had made a friendly talk with the leaders of ARDY's headquarters, and a through comprehension of ARDY's microfinance operation and current status. Despite very tired, he still made a field visit to Yongle Branch and the nearby commercial clients, appreciating the former working of Yongle Branch and the clients' enthusiasm for their family businesses.
